Your petition has been delivered to Mr. John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and your district Congress member Erik Paulsen(MN3) via fax. Thank you again for your participation. As of now, approximately 7,000 peitioners have shown their support. Please encourage your friends and families to participate in this campaign as well.

On April 6th, 2015, members of Korean American Forum (KAF) and Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE) had a meeting with Representative Steve Israel (NY-03) to ask for a public statement on Mr. Abe’s upcoming joint session address.

More specifically, KAF and KACE emphasized that for Prime Minister Abe to pay the due respect to the United States, he must pledge to:

a) Cease his worship visits at Yasukuni Shrine that reveres Japanese war criminals (including 14 Class A war criminals) as heroes and deities;

b) Stop revising history, both in Japan and abroad, or insolently denying Japan’s past wrongdoings and disgracing the victims and soldiers of World War II;

c) Honor the United States’ urging as outlined in H.Res. 121 (2007) with responsible action, as a democratic government;

d) and Apologize unequivocally for the war crimes against the American POWs in the Pacific Theater, during and after World War II.

As a long time advocate for our veterans and champion of human rights, Congressman Israel was fully sympathetic to these issues. Agreeing that nothing should take priority over historic truth, justice, and human rights, Congressman Israel committed to write a formal letter to the Japanese Ambassador, Sasae Junichiro, to address our concerns of the Abe administration’s revisionism and denials of history, including the issue of forced military sexual slavery. The letter will also be sent to Speaker Boehner.

Congressman Israel made it clear that the “comfort women” issue especially is one that he holds dear to his heart and that he fully understands our concerns. He vowed to do his best to deliver our community’s voice to Congress and the Obama administration.

We at KAF are committed to raising awareness of our community’s concerns in Congress, by continuing to contact our Representatives.

Also, your gracious donations made it possible for us to complete our payment for our first advertisement in The Hill on March 18. We are deeply grateful for your support.

Attached is the design for the next advertisement we are planning.
Please help us spread our message and make our collective voice louder.

Once again, we appreciate your continued support.

KAF
